Sheffield Winter Gardens Pop-Up Shop

A Charm of Magpies in the Sheffield Winter Gardens Pop-Up Shop!

I’m so excited!

I’m going to be in the Winter Gardens Pop-Up Shop!!

Hallam Makers have taken over the Pop-Up shop in Sheffield’s Winter Gardens for the whole of March.  I’m going to be there on the 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th and 8th, and I can’t tell you how much I’m looking forward to it.

I’ll be sharing the pop-up shop with different makers on each day; some are illustrators and graphic designers, some are other jewellery makers – and some I don’t know, so that will be a surprise!  But it’s a lovely large space, and I’m going to bring lots of my new jewellery to showcase.

Come down and say ‘hi!’ if  you can.  I’ve never had a stall here before, so it would be lovely to see some friendly faces.

A Charm of Magpies in the Crafty Corner at Rileys & Co

So… I belong to a lovely group called Crafty Business Sheffield, and some of the members have hired a corner of Riley’s & Co, on Farrar Road (Off Abbeydale Road) to sell our creations.

From the outside, I never realised how large the place was, and it’s stacked to the rafters with lots of antiques and collectables – and fabulous locally made crafts.  There’s even a fantastic cafe serving all sorts of tasty things – and your tea is served in a pot with a china cup and saucer.  What’s not to love?

Happy New Year 2018!!!

A Charm of Magpies would like to wish all our friends and customers a Happy New Year!

Lets hope 2018 is a good one!

We had a brilliant time last year, setting up the business and making lots of lovely stock (and selling it) – this year, we’re hoping to be bigger and better. We’ve brainstormed so many new ideas that we’ve made ourselves giddy with excitement, and we can’t wait to show you what we’ve decided upon.

Did you see our feature in ‘The Star’ in December? Lizzie didn’t like her double chins appearing in public, but we think the write-up is great.  As it says in the piece, our new site for Rook and Magpie Exclusive Beaded Jewellery, is in production.  It’s taking longer than we hoped because we’re just so busy, so please be patient with us.

We’re working on a new collection of resin pendants for A Charm of Magpies, too. The launch date was penned in for the first Saturday in April but we’ve checked the calendar and discovered that that’s actually April Fools’ Day, so now we’re having second thoughts.  It’s provisionally entitled the ‘Celestial’ collection as it’s inspired by views of the the constellations and bodies of outer space as photographed by NASA etc.  The first pieces have already gone to be photographed and they look amazing.

Beaded Bauble Workshops at The Art House, Sheffield

Whoop Whoop!

I am thoroughly delighted to announce that I’ve been invited to The Art House, Sheffield, to run a couple of workshops making these lovely beaded baubles.

I’ll supply the baubles, beads and thread, and help you through the pattern to make either of these two beaded covers (they’re removable, so you can take them off and add them to different baubles, if you wish).  Please email The Art House (link hereor call them on 0114 2723970.  Early booking is advised, as places are limited.

(Both these beaded baubles are available to purchase in my special Christmas shop – along with other items.  Why not click on this link, and have a look!)

Baubles, snowflakes, glitter and bling

Do you like my display tree? Baubles snowflakes glitter and blingI’ve had several customers who’ve asked to purchase it.  But where would I hang my gorgeous sparkly baubles?

I did say that I was planning on making some decorations this year, and my baubles had their first outing to the Crafty Business Fair in October.  They were spotted by the eagle-eyed Lisa from The Art House, and that has led to my upcoming workshops in December.  I’m really looking forward to teaching people how to make the baubles.  It’s not as difficult as it looks, but they do look stunning when they’re hung up and all the glass beads twinkle in the light.

Over the next couple of days, I’m going to be adding some of my decorations to the Christmas section of my shops.  There’s already some snowflake earrings there – I had to add a little something to test out the page – but there’s lots more to follow.

Sheffield Peace and Craft Fair

I had an amazing time at the Peace and Craft fair on Saturday last.

I love old architecture, and Sheffield’s Town Hall is pretty splendid – at least in the public rooms.  As usual, there was a fair mix of crafters and charities.  I’ve not done my own stall there before, but I found it to be brilliantly organised and the ambiance in the room was fantastic.

I had a lovely chat with Councillor Anne Murphy, Sheffield’s Mayor, and made some new friends.  A few were people I’ve followed, or who have followed me, on Twitter or Instagram – so nice to be able to get to know the people behind the faces on screen.  I hope they feel the same way about me!

I’ve already decided I’m going to be first in the queue for a stall next year.

Crafty Business Fair

On Saturday, I’ll be at the Victoria Hall Methodist Church, Norfolk St, for the Crafty Business Sheffield Autumn Fair.

There’ll be lots of stalls selling embroidery, knitting and crochet, hats and fascinators, jewellery, cards, candles and home furnishings. Why don’t you call in and get all your presents bought for Christmas? It’s a really friendly bunch of crafters, lovely to have a natter with, and there’s tea and refreshments, too.

#womanworkshop

So this is where I work.  I won’t show you the rest of it, because it’s in need of some tlc, but making the space to set up a workbench was well worth it.  Now I have a nice space to sit while I’m making my resin jewellery.  And, as a bonus, I get to watch the sparrows at the birdfeeder.

Thinking about Christmas!!

S’ok! I’ve not completely lost the plot yet. But I have got Christmas on my mind, and that doesn’t usually happen until at least 23rd December.

This year, I’ve been looking at upcoming markets and craft fayres and deciding which ones to apply for. I keep having to remind myself that it is still only August (the weather isn’t helping, lol).

I’m starting to have lots of ideas about what I can make.  I’m planning some winter-themed jewellery, and perhaps some candles. I’ve even been looking at baubles and tree decorations and wondering if I should make some… never have before.

Can’t remember being this excited about Christmas since I was a very small child.

Ritetrax at the Bolehills

Lovely and sunny!
My new necklace stand. The suitcase once belonged to my Dad.

Had a lovely time on Saturday at the Bolehills in Crookes.

The weather was (almost) on our side – the sun shone and the threatened rain stayed away. It would have been nice if the wind had not been so gusty and cold, but the music was good and good friends were there to chat to.  I made new friends, too.
